Covering the Baselines Week 4: Add Jonas Valanciunas November 27, 2012  |  Adam Cook

I did not realized how much a full time job really affects your fantasy team managing. Until 2 weeks ago I was usually the first to make the popular pickup and constantly worked trades to improve my teams. Well, working 40 plus hours a week has limited me to only being able to look at Twitter on my lunch break. Oh well, at least I get to have myself some fun on Monday nights and ramble about some players being trended in fantasy this week.

Pickup of the Week (Less than 50% Owned in Yahoo Leagues)

Jonas Valanciunas- C –Toronto Raptors (31 % Owned) – Starting, Valanciunas was the 33rd ranked player this past week in per game averages. He averaged 14.5 PPG, 8.5 RPG, 2.3 APG, and 2.3 BPG. Jonas is finally seeing the minutes he deserves on a young rebuilding Raptors team that sees him as a big part of their future. It gets better; Valanciunas is also a good FT shooter for a big man and is shooting a good FG percentage finishing easy looks at the rim compliments of Kyle Lowry and Jose Calderon. There is no other big beside Ed Davis (sees 20 min/game) on the Raptors to compete for rebounds with because everyone knows Andrea Barganni is afraid of the paint. Pickup now because true Centers with high blocks potential are hard to find nowadays.

Drop of the Week (More than 50% Owned in Yahoo Leagues)

Danny Green – SF – San Antonio Spurs (59 % Owned) – Let’s get one thing straight…Danny Green is a 10 PPG wannabe 3-PT specialist and nothing more. He has averaged 11.1 PPG, 3.6 RPG, and 1.4 APG in 32 MPG! Awful per minute production! Kawhi Leonard is coming back from his injury soon and Ginobli is starting to see an uptick in minutes. Look for Green’s minutes to drop back into the 24 a game range. Reasonably expect 10 PPG and 1.5 3’s per game and no other contributions in other categories. Green is not roster worthy right now and I’m sure there is someone out on your waiver wire that could benefit your team much more than Green can.

$ Buy Low $

Dwayne Wade – SG – Miami Heat– Before you jump my case just hear me out. Yes it will take a good bit to get Wade away from an owner who spent a first round pick on him, but as a Wade owner myself I am somewhat frustrated. Wade’s lack of health and inconsistent shooting have never driven Wade’s value lower than right now at this moment. He is averaging 18 PPG when he has averaged 22 PPG the past two years. He is still providing great REB’s (4.3), AST’s (4.7), and STL’s (1.5) for a pure 2 Guard. He did average 23 PPG, 5 RPG, and 4 APG this past week so he is starting to find his groove. I would definitely package a Damian Lillard and Kevin Martin to try and pry Wade away for cheap before the window completely closes.

$ Sell High $

Chandler Parsons – SF – Houston Rockets – Parsons was the 4th ranked player overall in the last week in per game averages! What is this world coming too? Parsons is a good young player and I have to give credit where credit is due, but damn did he play out of this world last week. He averaged 20 PPG, 9 RPG, 4 APG, and 3 3-PT/G. Try and build up how much playing time he is getting and his recent production to an active owner and try to get a Luol Deng or Danilo Galinari type. He is averaging 15.5 PPG and 7 RPG this year and I expect his averages to stay that way with a little regression for the rest of the year. I seriously doubt he will continue to shoot 41 % from 3-PT range so expect his 3’s to drop a little. I look for 15 PPG, 6 RPG, and 1.5 3’s/G the rest of the year. Parsons value will never be higher so try and grab all the value you can now!
