NBA Stats For Daily Fantasy Basketball

posted by Chet

Here are some statistics I like to use when assessing my daily fantasy basketball  picks.

Team Defensive Efficiency: The number of points a team allows per 100 possessions. You want your players facing the bottom of the pack here. Charlotte, Sacramento, Cleveland, New Orleans, and Toronto lead the league in inefficiency.

Opponent Shooting Percentage: This one is pretty obvious. You want your guys facing teams that give up buckets easier than the average bear or bobcat.

Team Points Per Game: For some reason you want your players to be on a team that scores a bunch.

Points Allowed Per Game: Similar to Team Defensive Efficiency, but these are the raw numbers per game, which tell you a a little different story.

  • Team stats are essential when choosing my players, but I’m huge on H/A splits and days rested splits. Sometimes it’s simpler than I try to make it seem.

    • Agreed. those two are some of the best.

  • I think if you can combine teams with a high pace, and poor defense, you have a recipe for big points!

  • ? –> How would one go about printing these kinda tables? I’ve been unable to seperate the EFF Matchups and same with this…if I highlight and go print preview, selecting “as selected…” results in a blank page, no matter how I fiddle w/ the size/borders/etc….then, if I go “as laid out on screen”, I can only print w/e doesn’t req. scrolling to see (i.e. managed to fit entire table from yest, but only when using a font of +/- 50%..very tiny).

Now, with the width of this table, it’s literally impossible to fit all 4 columns in any size/% print-prev.-screen {:^/ Small potatoes, but clicking on “…by: Google Drive”-link got me nowhere as well. I’m sorry to bug ya with such nonsense, but any insight would be mucho appreciated!!

    Thanks,
    BK

    • I’d copy and paste it into Google Drive or Excel. One way is to hit command/select on Macs to just copy the cells you want. I’m not sure about PCs.

  • Hey Chet,
What’s your take on say NOS or ORL, two teams who rank as one of the worst in Team DEF EFF and Opp FG%, but are teams that are not allowing many points. My question isn’t really on how/why is that possible, rather how that affects your thinking in terms of Fantasy

    • I think with those teams you have to look at the opponent and see if there is some way they can make a game of it. Players going against them will be efficient, but may not be in the game long enough to put up huge numbers. The over/under is always helpful there as well.
