The Day Before Tomorrow: Fantasy NBA News and Notes for April 12

The Cousins Conundrum

DeMarcus Cousins is one of the most talented big men in the NBA, and there are few centers I would rather have on my team. That list is probably limited to Dwight Howard and Andrew Bynum. However, he causes a lot of problems for himself. Between foul trouble, poor shot selection and not being the most gracious towards his coaches, he has some difficulty staying on the court. As a fantasy owner, it seems you just have to commit to the highs and lows and run him out there every night, or just completely swear him off. What do you do?

I had a another decent night in the DraftDay $5 Challenge last night, going 2-1. If you haven’t tried it out yet, join the game here, ITS FREE, all you have to do is beat me to win $5.

Yesterday’s News:

Follow me on Twitter for more notes from yesterday.

-Anthony Randolph went off in the absence of Kevin Love (Mild Concussion) last night. Disclaimer: He does this quite often and then disapears. But, Randolph looked really solid last night with 28 points, 6 rebounds and 5 blocks last night. He offers huge upside if he can keep himself on the floor, but coaches rarely stick with him. The last time he scored 20 fantasy points was March 18th in 20 minutes and he followed that performance up with a DNP – Coaches Decision on 3/21 and one minute of run in the following game. Tread lightly here as Love may only be out a game or two and the Timberwolves can go a lot of directions.

-Don’t look now, but the Man, the Myth, the Metta World Peace is back on the fantasy scene with Kobe Bryant sidelined. He has now scored 19+ points in 3 of his last 4 games and is worth a look as long as Kobe remains out. Devin Ebanks is a starter in name only as he cedes to World Peace and Matt Barnes on the wings more often than not.

-JJ Hickson got the start for ailing PF LaMarcus Aldridge last night and made the most of it with 23 points and 13 rebounds. Hickson doesn’t look like anything special when you watch him, but he plays with energy around the rim and looks for his own shot, making him a very valuable fantasy asset with the amount of run he is getting right now. Aldridge will likely be shut down here soon making Hickson a must-own.

-Derrick Rose is expected to play against the Heat tonight, in what should be a preview of a really good playoff series if Rose and Wade can stay healthy for their respective teams. Rose has missed a lot of time this year, but if he can get rolling heading into the playoffs, I can’t imagine the Bulls and Heat not facing off int he conference finals.

Strong Plays for Tonight:

Follow me on Twitter for more plays for tonight.

Chris Paul (LAC) – Paul is my play of the night Chris Paul and Kobe Bryanttonight, going against a Twolves team that has been playing a lot of high scoring games lately. He has a matchup with very small JJ Barea, giving him a size advantage that he doesn’t usaully have, look for Paul to take this game over early.

Dirk Nowitzki (DAL) – Dirk really killed me the other night against the Kings and it made me tenative to pick him here, but its almost impossible for me to pass up this matchup with the Warriors givent heir poor defense and his history against them. I expect Dirk to be the main focus of the offense tonight.

Jason Terry (DAL) – Terry is going to be another guy with a size advantage he’s not used to tonight as he will be facing off with miniature Nate Robinson for a lot of the game as both players come off the bench in similar roles. Look for Terry to hit a few threes tonight as he will be able to shoot over his defender a lot more often than he is used to.

Martell Webster (MIN) – This is my value play tonight, he has been consistently playing over 20 minutes per game for the Wolves and it was bumped up over 30 as Kevin Love was lost for the night. With Love already ruled out, look for a lot of the Minnesota players to become solid value plays with their increase in minutes.
